Cross Works at the World Urban Forum in Baku

Cross Works CEO Hakan Agca attended the 13th session of the World Urban Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan, where global discussions focused on the future of housing, cities and resilience.

Held from 17 to 22 May, the forum brought together global leaders, policymakers, practitioners and urban thinkers to explore this year’s theme: Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities.

For Cross Works, the conversations in Baku reinforced the importance of looking at housing not as a standalone challenge, but as part of a much wider urban system. Climate resilience, identity, inclusivity, long-term social value and economic security all need to be considered together when shaping meaningful urban strategies.

The event also provided an opportunity to share the progress of the New Tashkent Masterplan, including a 5m x 5m physical model currently being updated to reflect the latest changes as the masterplan evolves under our stewardship.

Hakan also met with government officials and city thinkers from Mongolia, Malaysia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and beyond. The forum was a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen regional relationships and reflect on how ambitious planning can be translated into delivery on site.
